Some emojis are missing on Yosemite version. These are all in the iPhone...

Gun
Knife
Pill
Needle

I guess Apple doesn't want violent or destructive emojis...

cannot confirm your findings: the emoticons you mentioned missing are all available on Yosemite Build 14A314h. at least on my machine...

I was wondering this myself...I couldn't find the beer/wine/martini emojis anywhere in the emoji picker in Messages (lol don't judge me, I send those a lot...) but there they are in the Character Viewer. Adding them to the favorites allows me to use them directly from Messages, even though they don't show up in the subcategories like they do on iOS...weird.

It is missing in the pop up view, but available in special characters.
