So i was reading the iMore review, and they talk about HDR video...i was skeptical so i went on their youtube video and ask them directly; the answer? No HDR, unfortunately.

So maybe it will be a software thing? when ios 11 comes out they will enable it?

HDR works in this way:the camera takes three photos, one underexposed, one normal exposure, and the third overexposed. Then the three images is merged to one with the help of software,so what you get is a more colourful photo with extra dynamic range,I.e deeper shadows, better colours and more details in shadows and highlighted areas. There are third party apps for iOS that does this.

Well,it works in exactly the same way,at least in my Sony cameras and the third party photo/video apps I use in my iPhone 6.

HDR for cameras/capture vs HDR for display/playback are two very different things which you're mixing up.

Per some reviews I've read, the display offers the wide color gamut and brightness required to displaying HDR video content but it's difficult to access/find that content right now. In theory, it should be as simple as streaming services updating their apps.

I was merely thinking of my own video clips and photos that I shot myself with phone or camera. Of course, video streaming services is something different.

I find it strange that they mentioned hdr video on the keynote and yet nobody talks about it...maybe it will come with iOS 11 yes..

I imagine it won't be true HDR until Apps like Netflix or Amazon update for HDR support on iOS devices. It also may not happen until iOS11 as iOS 10 probably doesn't support true HDR 10.
Yeah I think so ...because I’m not delusional. They said in the keynote Hdr video...so it will come..maybe with iOS 11

I think you need to be on IOS 11 for the HDR benefit, someone had mentioned the new codec h.265 I believe.

I'm honestly surprised they mentioned it at all. Seems like a mis-step, since they do need to handle the HDR metadata in the video, which likely isn't happening except with HEVC video support, which they said was coming in iOS 11. They also haven't talked about what the HDR metadata looks like as far as I know, which makes me think about the sort of unofficial way Apple supports AC3 5.1 in m4v files that 3rd parties had to figure out in order to create compatible files in tools like Handbrake.

EDIT: And chapter markers, and subtitles/captions, etc. What I'm saying is that existing stuff floating around is unlikely to work, and 3rd parties have to wait for Apple to tip their hand on the content side in order to figure out how to be compatible with it.
