No horizontal scroll in anything

I recently bought a used SR Macbook Pro and I have no horizontal scroll in any implementation of Windows. I've tried using Bootcamp, Virtual Box, and Vmware Fusion to install XP and/or Vista Business and none of my installs have horizontal scroll. I've used all sorts of drivers from 2 onwards, updated all my Windows installs and nada.

Is this normal behavior? IMO, with all the reviews of Bootcamp/virtualization, there have been no mentions of the lack of horizontal scroll which IMO is a big detriment to the implementation of Windows. Without horizontal scroll, Apple has effectively crippled Windows to be unusable...

IFAIK it was always vertical only...

In bootcamp, windows is windows. Apple supplies some drivers but that's it. All features and options are native windows. Now as the RemarkabLee was asking, what do you mean horizontal scroll? Do you mean via the touch pad, scrolling horizontally, or that the application themselves don't have horizontal scroll bars?

Yes, I'm talking about the touchpad/trackpad.

All versions of Windows are able to use both vertical and horizontal scrolling. The thing Apple does differently is that you use two fingers where in the majority of windows based PCs, you swipe the right side of the touchpad for vertical scrolling and swipe along the bottom for horizontal scrolling. Some PCs also offer "chiral" gestures and newer ones also use two finger scrolling. I've never seen a Windows laptop not be able to use horizontal scrolling.

If Apple is only capable of implementing vertical scroll, its a highly flawed omission. However I have read about people being able to get horizontal scroll but I have no idea how as there are only 3 different sets of drivers to try and none of them work for me.

This is a function of the driver for windows; and yes, I would guess that either Apple implemented it or they didn't. I don't know because I don't use the trackpad at all, I have a mouse. I will look into it and see what I can find. But in general, windows was NOT originally designed around horizontal scroll. It wasn't until much later that drivers were written to implement this. But it should be in there . . . but as I said, I never use it, so it doesn't bother me. Let me see what I can find.

UPDATE : Originally Apple did not support it at all; they just let Microsoft find the trackpad and install it as a default Trackpad (which, by the way, doesn't support horizontal scrolling). But recently Apple released updated drivers to support it, here they are :
Multi Touch Trackpad Update 1.1 for Windows Those should work -- but I have not yet tested them.

That's only for a very limited range of products though, and isn't even available for 64-bit:

I guess I should clear up when I say no horizontal scroll. I mean I cannot scroll horizontally using two finger scrolling. An external mouse works fine but I would rather not use it. I can scroll horizontally if I point the courser to the scrollbar and click the touchpad but that's extremely inefficient.

As far as Windows not supporting this, I've got an early Pentium M laptop that supports it fine and its easily 5 years old.
