and yet it asked me which I would prefer as my default browser. I have chrome as my secondary browser, but it didn't ask about that. This is restored from time machine, but only documents and data, no apps. I did have opera installed a long time ago, so I guess it's still floating around in my mac somewhere.

So, I guess I am asking how to I completely remove it?

install opera then uninstall using something like app cleaner / app zapper or whatever people use now so it can find all the traces and delete everything

Agree with deviant.

Also, don't use Chrome or Google Drive, Google seems to think they need to hook into low-level parts of your system to work. Funny how none of the other browsers do this. Love how they leave your mic on all the time too when you're browsing. Creepy.

If you want another browser for testing or whatever, use Firefox or Opera. Google Software Updater is bad for Macs.
