No ios 6 update for apple TV?

I really want the update as well. However, they have not released the GM to developers yet. They are still on Beta 4 since Aug. 6th (I believe). Not sure if they normally release a GM to developers or not.

From my memory the Apple TV updates are usually delayed by a few hours.
My understanding is that developers don't always get beta updates for Apple TV. Sometimes a beta or GM will get skipped. Since no one can develop for Apple TV the only reason developers get access at all is so that they can test their apps with the latest version of AirPlay. If AirPlay hasn't been updated on Apple TV there is no reason for them to get access. So my guess is that the last version of the Apple TV beta was nearly final, as far as AirPlay compatibility is concerned.

I have access to the Beta's because of my iOS Developer Account but I have not tested it. My understanding is that it is there to test AirPlay and the really only new feature is the ability to move ICON's around like you can on your phone. Not sure if you even get folders or just the ability to move them around. That is all I have heard.
I am just hoping for more content sources like HBOGo etc...

ATV1 can do that, pipe music directly to an Airport Express. That's why I still use one in my house. I'm glad they're adding the feature back for the ATV2 & 3.

iTunes Plus support? For the life of me I STILL cannot understand how Apple TV 1 boxes can handle, but the new ones cannot.

i really dont understand this. i don't plug my speakers into my tv i plug them into my receiver. same with the Apple TV and tv
What don't you understand exactly? Airplay requires Airplay enabled speakers. I'm sure you can find them on Amazon or something. They are speakers that are wireless.
just dont understand why you would just have speakers for that. wouldnt you want to run this through a home stereo with speakers? not just speakers meant for airplay...
There are lots of stereo receivers with built-in AirPlay - or you could just connect an AirPort Express router to your receiver to make it AirPlay-enabled.
That way you don't have to connect a long wire between the TV and audio system.
i guess i dont see the benefit of that. i like having my 5.1 stereo for things other then airplay. But having an appletv plugged into my receivers let me use my stereo already.
No wire speakers that only work with airplay seem pointless to me. id want to use my speakers for everything else i use too..

You can use your speakers for everything you like. Why would this exclude anything? Imagine that your surround receiver acts as a airplay receiver, then you can place it in the other end of you home with your speakers connected and have audio from the TV beam wirelessly to your sound system. Of course you can still have cd players etc connected.
Yes if you want a blu ray player connected you need to still use audio and video cabled and them there's no benefit but 1. Why not just rent or buy movies from itunes? 2. Who wants a butt-ugly receiver in their living room? ;-)
I think you're just mis-understanding the main usage for the feature. I don't think it would be for video content so much as audio. I often run audio through multiple speakers in my house (parties, etc.), now you can do it using the aTV as the source instead of your computer. I could see why one would want to do it via aTV sometimes. I can also see an occasional scenario where maybe you want to run to the kitchen for a couple minutes and don't really need to do more than listen to the dialogue of a video.
yea i guess it would make sense for places where you dont normally have your home stereo setup. kitchen or outside would be nice without wires just the speakers out there.
in an apartment where i have 5.1 in both rooms i dont see a need for speaker in other places besides having it in the bathroom.
Yes. But there are set ups that go beyond just the HTC.
I have ceiling speakers throughout the house fed by a receiver/AE in the basement. From the ATV1 in the family room, anyone can bring up music and pipe it to the overhead speakers.
But I also have a portable Airplay speaker that I can use between the garage and patio where I don't have permanent speakers installed. Music can be selected and streamed directly to it right from the ATV1 as well.
i still dont think people are giving you a clear understanding of what this feature is for. hopefully i can clear it up better
*as of now both ATV2 and ATV3 act as airplay RECEIVERS ONLY. Which means you can SEND airplay content to these devices only . It doesnt matter what the ATV is hooked up to - 5.1 receiver, tv, etc. Examples. You can mirror off your ipad, or latest mac with ML. you can send audio/pictures from i devices that have music/photos on them already. you can use the REMOTE app and bring up your itunes playlist on an i device and play it directly on your TV. You can use Itunes directly and select the apple tv as an output device. So whatever you have in itunes will play directly on the ATV. This last feature is redundant because you can navigate to the computer on the apple tv itself and play anything you have in itunes already.
The one thing with airplay that both i devices AND itunes have is the ability to select multiple airplay devices at once. With this new features in IOS6, the ATV's finally have this ability.
so say you have 3 rooms at opposite corners of the house. one room contains your mac with itunes music library and connected computer speakers. one room contains an ipod touch and an airplay enabled speaker. one room contains your tv/receiver/5.1 surround and an apple tv. Before ios6. if you wanted music on in all 3 rooms at the same time on all devices, you could only do so using itunes on the mac or the REMOTE app on the ipod touch. NOW you can do so from all 3 rooms using multiply speakers from the atv airplay menu.
its not a breathtaking new feature by any means as it merely catches up the atv with all other ios airplay devices, but it may be nice to have. The usefulness of it will be in just HOW easy it is to select multiple speakers without dialing into menu after menu to find it.
Let's be really honest. In the last few months Apple released major updates to OS X, they released the best new laptops on the planet, they update the entire line of iphones and ipods, they've released new major versions of iOS, and have released new major versions of almost every app they have. But they haven't added shared photostreams into aTV, so that's "bad form"? Honestly, put things in perspective.
Apple has done a lot this year, I agree.
On another note, can't we just all assume that in October, we'll get the update? I'd like to. It makes sense, they'll give us the ipad mini, iMac retina & maybe a shiny new iTV? I'll be content with watching the normal stuff on my
Tv 3 until I get the update & get to mess around with the new stuff. Seems pointless to complain that Apple hasn't done anything when, they have. They've given us techie's ALOT to sink our teeth into recently. Although, I think its pointless to complain period.
