Today is the first time I try to backup photos of iPhoneX to Mac. There are IMG_E0001.jpg, IMG_0001.heic and IMG_0001.AAE for every portrait mode picture in image capture.

I googled everywhere and found that there was this feature in iOS10 to keep or not keep Original in Portrait Mode. There is only one post in the whole world asking about this problem.

Does anyone have an idea if it will work to not keeping original file in iOS?

Thanks!

Portrait mode is a lossless edit, so there shouldn’t be a need to keep the original, as the portrait can be returned back to the non portrait version.

How this translates into the exact files you’re seeing I’m not 100% sure.

What version of MacOS are you connected to?

10.13.1
In iOS, in camera set it to use HEIC, and in photos set to transfer to mac keep originals.
