No Mac Pro with "Updated" FCPX

Can't help but to think this is a bad sign...

I would think if they are targeting Arri users and 4k video editing that perhaps a new pro would have been released/hinted to or whatever with it.

But,

On the other hand NAB is coming up and they are pushing pro apps which can also mean that a Mac Pro is coming rather soon.

Edit: Looking at the Front page article again, I guess the update isn't a huge deal. But the Pro Push is a pretty big deal, at least they still do care a bit.

Not to sound like a broken record but there are LOTS of threads on this already.

It's coming. Apple will release it when it is ready because that is how it rolls.

If you need the performance then a hex or 12-core MP is 80% of the performance of the E5 equivalents.

Why would it be a bad sign? We aren't expecting a new Mac Pro yet, and new Xeon processors aren't yet available.

Yeah, I was actually just about to start a thread on this... with all the noise Apple is making today about FCPX before NAB next week, it demonstrates to me that they are, in fact, committed to the pro community.

That can only mean good things as far as a new Mac Pro is concerned.

They have been available for 10-11 months. The Xeon E5 1600/2600 are a distinct improvement over the 3500/3600/2600 processors in the current offerings.

Given Apple cannot sell new Mac Pros at all in the EU markets, you'd think they'd actually want to fix that situation?????

There is no good reason to limit FPCX to the Mac Pro. Nor any of Apple's "Pro" software.

Likewise there isn't a good reason to tightly couple the Mac Pr (and its supply chain ) to a single specific (or even group of software ) applications that have their own separate evolutionary/development forces one them. Multiple FCPX updates will come out in a year going forward. This is just one of them.


The market push could be damage control though if Apple is going to continue on for months with a Mac Pro update "Lost in Space". There is a temporary flurish of marketing chesting beating that will happen over the next two weeks due to NAB. That really doesn't change in deep strategies. Just matching the same "noise" level all the over vendors are doing for a brief period of time.

When your pushing pros that work on cameras that go into $100k+ range and using 4k video, grading, pro quality quicktime encodes and the sorts to FCPX I would expect them to be using something more than a couple of iMacs.

Not saying at all that the Mac Pro is specifically for video, however with the updating FCPX, motion ect to be more pro friendly, I would believe hardware should soon follow.

There is nothing that restricts this to iMacs either. For example,

Besides the iMac your sneering at does better than the non-GPU upgraded Mac Pros many folks around here are sitting on some FCPX tasks.

The new FCPX is going to be more capable on the new GPUs in all 2013 Macs and those with 2013 GPUs that are now more viable with the updates that arrived with 10.8.3 (and driver tweaks to come over the next several months).

FCPX is not more "pro friendly" as being feature complete than it was before. There will be more features next year and the year after too. That really isn't an aspect of "pro-ness".
