I've been waiting for the C2D MBP since mid August. Initially I wanted to get the 15" model, but after the announcement I decided 17" was the way to go. I suffered through all the shipping delays, hoping that the main reason why the 17" was delayed was to fix issues with the LCD that are apparently plaguing the first batch of the 15" C2D MBPs. Now, after looking the awful awful AWFUL pics of the first 17" C2D MBP posted on this forum, my patience has finally run out!

I'm placing an order for a 24" Dell monitor and I'm starting my wait for the next Mac Pro upgrade. Who knows, if I get tired of waiting I might just go ahead and get the current Mac Pro.

Good luck to all you C2D MBP owners, especially those who have waited so long for the 17" model. You'll need all the luck you can get :(

How did you order one of these in August when they were relased in October?

He hasn't ordered one...he was waiting since August for them to be released, but is now bailing out.

I ordered the iMac about a week after the Intels were released, and bought my wife a MacBook the day after they were released. We haven't been sitting around waiting for the next best thing, but rather my wife and I have had the use of two excellent, fast, well designed computers for nine and six months respectively. Even though they have been superceded by faster machines, they are still more than sufficient for our needs.

The longer you wait, the longer you go without.

Well, I've whined and moaned to my wife about how bad the new C2Ds are and how it really makes sense to spend the extra $700 on a Mac Pro + 24" Monitor -- and I think I've finally succeeded! The only thing that's stopping me from getting the Mac Pro right away is the rumor of the imminent Mac Pro upgrade (my guess is it's gonna happen at MWSF, but I'm hoping for next week :) ). I'm really fine with the current config, only the thought of having to spend an extra $300 for a measly 1GB RAM upgrade is killing me. Still, I doubt I can hold out for another 2 months, and besides my bday is on the 30th :D So I prolly'll get the Mac Pro next week (after Ive had the chance to test out the moni) and upgrade the processor a year or two from now (seeing that it is replaceable, yay!).

Awful pics?

The 17 inch MacBook Pro is pretty much the same as the PowerBook 17 inch. What's so awful?

I guess the 17" PB must not have been that good. I know I wasn't impressed with the 17" CD display (uneven illumination, limited viewing angles, etc.). Was hoping for a big improvement with this rev. The rest is history.

It's done -- I've just ordered my 24" Dell!
