Hypothetically, just maybe a few of us already considered that. Maybe some of us were waiting for the "one more thing" being a surprise MBA revision. Personally, I won't lose sleep over it, as I'm not considering one, but maybe I'll get one depending on the next revision.

is there a problem here? everybody knew that it was all about iOS, iPods and AppleTV. iMac, Mac Pro, ACD 27", MBP Revisions and new Mac Mini didn't get included in any event, why would the Air?

You know the Air will be the same way. You're getting disappointed over nothing

Nobody was expecting a Macbook Air update today. Seriously. It has been told over and over again in this forum. Maybe we'll see something this October otherwise next year.

Or we'll see the MBA go bye-bye.

Well yes that's a possibility too. The only reason I think it won't be discontinued is the fact that it was introduced as a pioneer in the notebook market so maybe they want to keep up with this on the MBA. So since it's been quite a long time from the last update there's a chance we'll see a major update.

I agree with most readers that the MBA update would not happen today.
Its always nice to dream/hope.

But realistically what could one reasonable expect in the near term anyway. Current processor is at the end of the line, and next generation Sandybridge is a couple of months away at best, 1st Q 2011 at worst.

IMHO the weeks best news for the MBA is the info posted earlier on the potential of the intel SB GPU projected performance to be roughly that of the current ATI 5400 series. I'm still a fan of a discrete video card but this gives the designers options. Scotts gave a good write-up on it. We could get better video, much needed longer battery life and not incur a weight gain penalty. Hey.

Another observation that could be promising is the use of the retina display in another product line. It could portend well for the hope of getting an updated display for the MBA. I remain hopeful.

I can't even act like I am surprised that there wasn't a MBA spec refresh
it was so obvious an Apple msuic-media event, not a Mac event
who on earth would expect a Mac update/refresh in the first place?

I too, am an Air owner. I can understand there are a lot of us and potential owners who are just waiting for the refresh before pulling the trigger. But it's just unrealistic to expect any announcement today.

Apple should have or at least close to locking in its holiday season product lineup by now. So the next window of opportunity would be the traditional April MacBook refresh if not the January MacWorld-CES period.

turns out the rev.B purchase decision was a smart one

I simply don't understand what you're looking for in an update. Haven't they already packed in everything they can with the rev C? What are they going to change that they could actually make money off of? Nothing I say. The new macbook air was the iPad, get used to it. All niche markets are filled, there's nothing else to do.

mmmm.... lugging a Mac Pro and everything else isn't exactly a portable alternative to a Macbook Air.

Well I wanted to get an Air first, set that up for class to replace my Rev. A but screw it, Mac Pro desktop. Another school year with my Rev. A Air.

WTH are you lugging around with your Macbook?

Nothing but an ext HD and some USB sticks and cables, though I'm currently using a Samsung NC10 Hackintosh. A Mac Pro would need a display, keyboard, mouse and a generator/batteries if you want to use it on the move.

Personally a MacBook Air is the only Mac that is suitable for me as anything else would be too large to fit in my rucksack and I for one would seriously consider an 11.6" version if it were introduced.

Fair play, that certainly makes sense now.

I'm travelling the world at the mo and will be for the next 10+ months at least. A MB Pro 13" is too bulky for my daysac and so until Apple Updates the MB Air I will be sticking with my Hack Book.

The MBA doesn't even have a SIM card reader. For an ultraportable that is not acceptable.

Seems likely. Every major product in Apple's lineup has been refreshed this year, except the MacBook Air and the iPod Classic. I think the writing's on the wall.

I mean, they certainly wouldn't hold an October event just for the MacBook Air and iLife. At this point, the next Apple event will probably be for iPad 2 early next year.

While not surprised, the way Apple didn't so much as say "Thanks!" to the now-retired iPod Classic tells me that they may be willing to put the MBA out to pasture without so much as an honorable mention.

It seems that their future for small computing devices is the iPad. There's the "MBA replacement" everyone was waiting for.

No the C2D is the prior generation of processor. In advance of SandyBridge there are already Core i5 and i7 ULV chips that could be used in an updated MB Air. Other manufacturers have and are already introducing laptops built around such chips.

Well upgrades in terms of storage, memory, etc are long overdue.

When you compare the MacBook Air to the rest of the current Mac line up it languishes behind every other model in all aspects apart from size. This is a product that is supposed to be a halo product and which costs a premium over other models.

When you are paying a premium for a computer but get something that is beaten in every aspect apart from size then it really isn't an attractive prospect and doesn't stand out as a halo product any more.

One of the points of the MacBook Air was to show people what Apple could do compared to everyone else (Dell, HP, etc) Well when it was introduced it did that but having been neglected there are a number of manufactures that have models that now match the MB Air in a number of ways or even beat it. The MacBook Air has not taken any real steps forward since the Rev B was introduced 2 years ago and even that just dealt with the issues that existed with the original Rev A.

But why would they need to have an event to introduce a new MacBook Air at all?

After all the completely redesigned Mac Mini was introduced without any event being held.
