Today, event was all about iPhone 12. Not surprised. The longer it takes, the better for you beta testers out there!!

Yeah, I wouldn't say I'm expecting Big Sur to be here soon...but mention of it (even if it was just a quick "oh by the way" announcement) would have been nice. However, I did get an app update yesterday that while it didn't mention anything about Big Sur in the notes, the app icon is now more "Big Sur like" (square instead of the round one it was previously). I'm on Catalina, so that square icon sticks out like a sore thumb 😂

oh never Hurd of it
Just a weather app. I have it up in my status bar. But I was surprised to see a change like that while having no mention of Big Sur. Even though Big Sur wasn't mentioned in the notes for the update, I'd assume it has something to do with it simply because of the icon redesign (but I didn't think app updates like that would be coming before a GM)...

The only thing why, is maybe there will be a 10th beta. It may coincide with the new Macs coming out soon with the ARM technology.

Big sur release may not be be till arm macs announcement, most likely. As release would likely include all the information about them.

True, they could leave ARM macs to big sur.1, but there's possibly more to juggle with that than iOS.

Maybe. But it’s not like it’s gonna to get much if any public beta testing with ARM hardware. All that will be done on internal builds. Still, the silence today did seem a bit odd.

I don't think there is any need for the release of Big Sur to coincide with the release of the new Macs with Apple Silicon. They didn't do that with iOS 14 and iPhone 12. Also, macOS for Apple Silicon would be compiled from a slightly different code set. Stuff specific for Apple Silicon Macs would not be in the compiled code for Intel-based macOS. Just as an example, Rosetta is not in the Intel-based macOS version.

You're right, I was expecting I was really hopeful for it
I have been thru (7) updates, from Mavericks, which was preinstalled on my late 2013 MBP, to Catalina. Now I have a 27" iMac preinstalled with Catalina. Of all of the operating systems, El Capitan gave me minor issues, Mojave and Catalina caused my fans to run on my MBP when I had it, when I render in iMovie and installing the updates for a bit. On my iMac, I don't have that issue with the fans. Sometimes, it would be nice if Apple came out with new operating systems every (2) years. They are so bent on making sure they stay ahead of MS Windows.

No. Otherwise you would’ve read about it on the front page.
I don't know where you are at geographically, I'm in Southern California, and Apple releases around 10:00 AM here. Either I check around 10:30, i'll check Mac Rumours or I'll get a notification from software update.

tkwolf didn’t ask about a release today. He/she was wondering if Apple gave a hint as to when macOS Big Sur might be released. If they did such a thing yesterday you can be sure MacRumors would have written something about it. Especially by the time the keynote was long over. ;)

Today, they released beta 10, that's a good thing. So the public release could come as early as Thursday or as late as next Tuesday. I can't imagine them going as far as Beta 11!!! I don't think they are going to wait until the iMac with ARMs coming out, or will they?
