You referring to the chime?
The chime is not gone, but if you have sound muted before you reboot it will be muted as well. This has been this way since forever.
Yes, that loud and obnoxious chime.
Noobs will always be noobs... That chime is the trademarks of all Macs...!
This is what happens when Apple entices these Windows mother****ers with Yosemite ugly **** and blatant copying of Windows features and now they want to get rid of everything essentially Mac so that they can have an alternative version of "Windows"...
In fact I don't see a point of this thread other than just a NOOB bragging about getting rid of Mac features ON A MAC...
This sound is just so awkward in meetings and the library. I never saw the need of it other than letting the world know that I have a MacBook. There are ways to turn it off or suppress it by the way: http://osxdaily.com/2012/11/04/disable-mac-boot-chime/

I love that Bong.
Hope Apple will improve it (if ever) and never completely remove it.
I hope they never touch it, there is nothing wrong with it. That noise is iconic!
My systems must have been broken then cos I always got the chime, muted or otherwise. I wouldn't have minded so much if it at least respected the system volume, but boy that sucker was loud.
Do you use external speakers? Changing the volume with those plugged doesn't affect the chime.
Last I heard, the bong is played at the end of the ram check, signifying no bad ram was discovered. Kind of an important function.
There used to be a trick, plugging something into the headphone jack to keep it silent.
