I'm having Nightmare with Apple product lately! Okay it may be me or Apple hate me for switching and using PC for 3 years. Recently I switch over to Apple again for the Mac Pro because it can run Windows. 3 weeks it die on me and never turn on anymore. Have to take it to Apple Store. Apple Genius said he have to replace the circuit board and the power supply. I ask how long, and he told me shouldn't be more then 1 weeks. By the way the bill was $1,190. Good thing I don't have to pay for it. It didn't take a weeks. They told me no supply so they make me wait 3 weeks. Finally got the part in and replace it, it still doesn't turn on. Say they have to order a new replacement. Waited another 2 weeks. They have problem and delay the order furthor because they told me mine was customize and have to re-order. This time I waited a whole 3 weeks making my Mac Pro sitting in their store for 1 month and 1 weeks. I finally got the Mac Pro and it starting to work fine after 3 days. Now my ACD 23 have white bleed everywhere, take to them for exchange and still the same. Give me excuse every ACD is like that due to the backlight. So I live witht he white bleed. The ACD started flickering on me after 1 month of use. Tell them the problem and they give me a new ACD. This one have even worst backlight bleed then my previous one and it flicker again.

Okay, I'm through with them. It so messup they sell old Apple Display specs and even a Computer cost almost 3k broke down less then a month. This Apple Store probably store everywhere or half the the display with old model because I went through 3 display and all of them have white bleed on black background.

This sort of thing happens to everyone with one company or another. I've never had a major problem with Apple, in fact, they gave me a replacement iPod cable for free because the other one cracked. Of course I had to push my case about how I didn't just crack it accidently but I found if you do push [Apple] you get more than you want, like an official apology.

I would demand they simply replace the computer instead of fixing it.

I can understand a 1 week turn around time, but what you're describing is flat out insane. Ask to speak with a manager or higher up and insist that the computer be replaced.

Remind them that a happy customer tells 10 people, but a upset customer tells 100.

Why are some people so shocked to discover that Apple isn't perfect? They still get top marks for product quality and support. If anyone thinks they'll do better with Dell, then good luck is all I can say.

Call AppleCare. Tell them what happened. Explain that your "very disappointed" and "surprised that an Apple product(s) are giving you so much trouble."

Most of all DO NOT GET UPSET. Always stay professional and level headed.

Good luck. :)

Yeah. What with Dell scoring a 4 vs. Apple's 201.

Agreed. I've had a hard drive fail on a PowerBook once within two months of purchase.

People need to understand that if a physical piece of hardware is going to fail, then it is normal for it to fail early on, because it is defective. When a company ships millions of products, some defective are going to slip through now and then. And since this is the case, I would rather everything fails early on so it gets covered by Apple Care.

That of course doesn't excuse the long time you say they are taking to fix it. I would have demanded a whole new machine. In fact, I have done that before on behalf of a friend, and Apple Store in Oakbrook happily gave her a brand new Intel iMac to replace her very Lemon-y iMac G5 she had recently bought.

To the OP: what exactly did they say had to be fixed anyway?

I agree the you experience has not been satisfactory.

When you go back to Apple again, be real nice to them and don't act like they owe you anything. Apple (or any other retailer) from my experience will be 10x reasonable. But also be firm so they don't walk all over you.

I worked retail through college and know for fact that I was always 10x times nicer and willing to help a customer without an attitude than vise verse.

Well obviously not, since you're back to using a Dell again. That's your loss, not Apple's.
Actually its my 1st Dell, and I still have 2 Macs in the house. As Far as Apple service goes I have allways had terrific service. Just cant help it they dont build a consumer tower. Iam a little surprised at how Neon Guy is having so many issues.

That consumer tower argument is a valid one. It's either you get the full blown Mac Pro or settle for an iMac or Mac Mini.

I would have preferred a tower configuration, but the Mac Pro was too powerful for me. Now I have a nice 19" Dell Flat Panel display collecting dust in my basement from my old PC. The Mac Mini wasn't enough computer for my needs/wants.

Oh well, sacrifices need to be made sometimes.

I personally have not had any bad service from Apple, it is just luck sometimes. People go 10 years without a problem whereas others have 10 problems in the first year, it all depends on how lucky you get with your machine.

Maybe that can be their new slogan!

Apple: So.. you feelin' lucky? :)

I think if Apple and Dell sold the same number of computers each year, you'd find the same number of complaints.. hardware is hardware, and I don't care who 'makes' it, there is going to some that have problems.

The question is how the company reacts when you call them and tell them you have problems.

I've been very happy with the way Dell handles problems.. but my experience has been with their higher end stuff, so perhaps the stuff they sell for $499 on the TV ads around Christmas time comes with a different warranty plan.

My past experience with Apple has been to stuff the computer back in the box and ship it to them, only to have them give me the run around for a month, leaving me to stare at the empty space left on my desk.

That's why I buy used Macs.. they're already 'broken in', and I know right from the start that if the machine fails, it will be up to me to fix it myself.

It makes me physically ill to have to sit in front of XP for more than 30 minutes.. so I really don't have much of a choice! (besides going back to pencil and paper)

Dont feel so bad, after sending back a noisy Mini I went and ordered a Dell:) And its made just for me.

Made just for you huh. I saw Dell commercial with there American workers happily making your PC. I may be mistaken but isn't Dells made in a country with no worker rights and child labor? There customer service is handled in India.

We had a lot of problems with our G5 when we first got it. One week in, it wouldn't turn on. Lower proccessor went out. Replaced $0. Next the modem stopped working, replaced that $0. They also found that the lower proccessor was bad again  replaced that $0. Now it runs great. It's a Rev. A G5 dual 1.8. And yours is a Rev. A Mac Pro, NEVER buy Rev. A mac stuff, i have learned this well.

Where is it you think APPLES are made?

Apple has a lot of things made for them by a Taiwan/Chineese company called Quanta whos other customers include HP/Compaq, Dell, Acer, and Gateway to name just a few.

Theres a difference between 'made' in the U.S.A. and 'assembled' in the U.S.A.

Most outfits have everything 'made' overseas wherever labor is the cheapest, then ship it all to the U.S. where it's 'assembled' by a bunch of dudes making less than $8 an hour with no benefits.

The AGP video card out of my G4 tower was made in China, for example.

I don't believe Dells are actually, literally "made" for anybody - they just configure them when you order them, if you so happen to chose custom configurations.

These "I'm through with Apple" threads are as pointless as they are irritating.

I agree that it would be nice to see a cheaper tower available from Apple, but don't hold your breath waiting for them to dive into a high-volume, low profit market sector. They succeeded with the Mini by keeping things simple but a tower would cost more to make and make less for Apple.

A few months back the power supply blew on one of my B&W G3s and a couple of years ago I had the CD drive fail and then the video board die in an iMac 400. Not good enough Apple - I hope they read these threads and buck their ideas up a bit.

I had a 6400/180 motherboard die once, and my 1400c/133 is having video problems now. This is totally unacceptable by any standard and Apple really needs to get their act together or they're going to go bankrupt and lose all their business.

Hey, the same thing happened to my PowerBook. They were taking forever to fix it (over a month), so I called them, and got a free MacBook Pro.
