No More Comcast!

I just moved and got a digital starter package from Comcast. I asked them today how much would it be to receive cable news networks. The change would take my monthly bill from $20- to $62-, way more than I'm willing to spend.

I'm not sure if Apple TV would cover me in that area, but I don't like being taken advantage of by Comcast. Any thoughts on how to leave Comcast and also get news channels? Thanks!

What news channels are you looking to get? If you want cable news you will have to buy service from Comcast.

Did you get the $19.99/month for 6 months internet deal? Price increases after that...

Do you have a landline telephone? thats $25+/ month...

Most cable providers have deals for adding tv and/or phone services. Comcast triple play is $99/month with $100 rebate...

Many cable providers also have a cheap basic tv package that includes local channels and cable news...

Or Dish/Direct tv have good deals...

If watching on HD in your living room on your TV is what you're looking to do, then unfortunately you'll end up paying someone at some point - content costs money to produce and everyone along the distribution chain wants a penny from your wallet.

I personally think your best bet is to ask to speak with a Comcast customer retention representative. Explain your situation, how you are only seeking the lowest tier possible that still gets you the news channels you want, and how you're more than happy to pack up your things and move to another provider or cut the cord all together. See what kind of promotional deal they can come up with. If they can't meet your budget, then you'll have a decision to make - find the extra cash, shop around with dish/direcTV, or google for a free low-res stream online.

Depends. I get OTA broadcasts from all the major networks and watch the HD content they put out without paying any provider.

If you want things outside OTA broadcasts you'll be paying a provider, though.
