Just finished the update. Prior to doing the update I had about 3.5 GB of free space left and the "other" category in iTunes showd less than 0.5 GB of total size.

Following the update to iOS 5, the "other" usage has ballooned to 4.3 GB and I have about 0.2 GB free.

What is taking up all this space?

Im having the same issue as well. I had a tad bit over 8GB of free space this morning, now it says I have 16+GB of "other" data...

Let it finish syncing, mine said the same thing and when it was all said and done then it went away

It has finished syncing. I also powered off and back on my phone as well as closed and re-opened iTunes and then performed another sync. It hasn't gone away. My "other" is still 4.3 GB.

Something's gone wrong during the update. Restore as new once again.

Though, I remember a bug in the beta builds, where photo or videos wouldnt be shown as photos and wwere shown as other. But was resolved in the next builds.
