I was configuring a BTO MacBook just now, and I noticed there wasn't a configuration selection for matte or glossy screen. I went back to the 'hardware' portion of Apple's main page, and the description for the MB now just says it comes with a glossy screen -- it doesn't say you get your choice. Did they take away the matte screen option? That didn't last long.

I would say there are not less than 100 threads on this already.

in the search box, just type in glossy or matte and you'll read all about it.

ya only the MBP comes in both configurations....MB is only glossy....it's never been matte.

Actually, many local maccenters can order it with a matte screen for you (at no extra charge:p ). My mc (maccenter) offered me a matte MB, but the glossy is so much better. :D

Have you actually seen a MacBook with a matte screen? Can anyone else confirm this? This is the first I've heard....

If that is true, a number of prospective purchasers might be interested. Your post is the first I've heard of such an option. By Maccenters are you referring to specific retailers or independent dedicated Mac stores?

I can find no reference to it, and Apple doesn't have a part listing for a matte 13" LCD.

This is an individual retail company in Denmark called Humac. They told me they could make a special order with a matte screen. I can not confrm this, and have not seen a matte MB.

Are you sure?

I could have sworn the difference between the glossy MacBook screen and the matte MacBook Pro screen is very small. Of course, they have different viewing angles.

You do notice a difference when playing a video though. In normal use I much prefer the matte MacBook Pro screen. It may just be me ;)

Just out of curiosity, what does the picture have to do with anything? :p

P.S. Depending on what you're doing, there can be some pretty substantial impacts (some positive and some negative) of XBrite type screens...but this has been done to death on MR already.... :(

Sorry about the bad post...

Not sure where I got the idea you could get the MB with a matte screen. Must be all the fantasy shopping I've been doing at the on-line Apple store, confusing the MBP's options with the MB's. Or maybe I saw the photo of the MB where they compare the new glossy screen with old matte one, without reading the caption. Anyway, sorry.
