The way the Maps look/work in PB 2 is indeed quite different from iOS 9:
In iOS 9 the car arrow sign is fixed to the bottom-middle of the screen, just rotating the pointer from time to time, and the changing travel path just "feeds" itself into it. In PB 2 the same car arrow sign shifts horizontally across the bottom of the screen, so if you take a left turn, the arrow would shift to the right, so you get to see more of what's coming ahead. Useful, but takes some time to get used into after iOS 9.
The 3D is not the same indeed. It is somewhat there on the longer stretches of the road, but when you approach a roundabout or any other junction, it is pretty flat 2D. The sky line, present in iOS 9, which was enhancing the 3D effect in iOS 9, is also gone.
Overall so far, the functionality of PB 2 seems better than that of iOS 9, yet the new design, as it stands now, is nowhere near the polished one of iOS 9. The current beta version looks like they have taken their existing "pretty" maps, tuned down the light and flattened them with a truck. I hope this will improve by September.
