have the same issue

Have you found a solution to this? I googled it and your post is the only one that I found. I would like to use the mosaic screensaver too!

Not yet, its a shame as its the one feature everyone talks about when they come round to our house. The imac is our family computer and seeing all of our pictures that we have taken over the last 8-9 years on a 27" screen in the family room is mesmerising. I'm not sure if I want to stick with Mountain Lion if this screen saver isn't available.

Will keep on looking

Thanks for the update. I use a MacBook Air with the big thunderbolt display and everyone loves the mosaic too. I will keep looking and will post when I find out if it is in Mountain Lion. Thanks for your help.

No Mosaic

I just called and talked with Apple and they said that Mosaic is not a screensaver option anymore. They said that someone may have it for download and import online. I filled a complaint and they said it may be included in an update. Good luck.

Thanks for theupdate, thats bloomin stupid of them, its a great feature to have. Thats hope Apple do decide to include it in any update in the future.

Lion's screensaver is located here: /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework
And the preference pane is here:
/System/Library/PreferencePanes/DesktopScreenEffectsPref.prefPane

So now I'm wondering if these files could be copied to a Mountain Lion installation, and if the "Mosaic" screensaver option would become available again (at the expense of the new ML-style screensavers, of course.) Anyone willing to try?

Sure would be nice if Apple just brought back the beloved Mosaic screensaver. It was very cool.

what moasic? is it the one where all those little pictures thumbnails combine to make another picture in your slide show?

Yep, that was it.

Yeah, I'm pretty shocked about this. It's something that made every person in our family, and every visitor to our house, would stop and stare at on a daily basis. Not to mention I've seen it in museums and art galleries and shown my work with it (I'm a photographer).

Pretty ridiculous that anyone at Apple could have thought removing one of the best features of OS X, which was probably a 3kb file, was a smart idea. But Lion (and ML) are just chock-full of "brilliant" ideas like that. (LOVE how new Macs no longer have a Dashboard key, which was useful, and instead show Launchpad, which is useful for six-year-olds at best. Remember At Ease? It's exactly the same thing. It was stupid then and it's still stupid now.)

I can't use ML because of this omission -- I use it too much -- and that means I also can't buy a Retina MBP. Great. Thanks for preventing me from giving you more money, Apple.

I smell an opportunity for a third party developer to make a (standalone?) replacement.
