No need to bring an ID card for retail store pickup

I just spoke with a rep at the 5th ave store in NYC.
I'll not be able to pickup my reserved iPads so I asked him if it would be possible to send a friend instead. According to him they will not request any kind of ID card/passport/etc, "just make sure that the person you send to pick up your stuff knows your Apple ID" was the answer to my question.
