No new iPhone this year, from the horses mouth.

So, my g/f went by the local ATT store about 20minutes ago to activate an old phone for her son (lost his iphone) anyway, the guy at the store said she might as well go ahead and get a 3Gs because Apple is not going to release an iPhone this year due to the iPad being released.

So this guy is telling everyone that comes into the store this information, guessing to either sell more 3gs's or to make himself sound like he has some insider info.
So any other ATT employee's on the forums and have you been told to tell your customers this ?
How about everyone on the forums give him cause he is the new guy to go to for leaked info.

If this is true, no worries I guess, but I'd be fairly pissed if some idiot at the store said he got his information from corporate, ended up talking me into a 3gs because I needed a new phone and 3 months later the new phones drops and I'm stuck in another 2yr contract.
 
Im still going to wait for a more official source....

Damn it. I was waiting to drop Verizon this July and get a brand spanking new iphone new features. I'm going to go to the online apple store right now and order the old one. Why wait for something that is now not coming out for two years? Thank your grandfather for me... he saved me months of waiting for nothing.

I hope you're not serious. If you are, you're in for massive fail.

OP, can you describe this guy in Mansfield? Does he often go to a pizza place next door?
 
Yeah I wouldn't trust what that ATT salesman said. Had one here that was selling iphones with Applecare telling people that the Applecare covered accidental damage and water damage... Sales people say anything to make a sale...bottom line
 
THEIR will be a new iphone this year... Not neccessarily this june/july.... I have a feeling its going to be closer to September and October..

Same here.
I heard one spitting that line last year when I was upgrading.
I didnt even bother correcting him infront of his soon to be victim of misinformation.
Funny to be there when she drops and breaks her screen and brings it back to Apple saying the AT&T guy told me its covered :D
 
Lets think about this from the sales persons perspective...

Your a ATT Sales rep, you earn a low wage but make it up on commission for new contract customers you sign up. With everyone who cares knowing Apple will most certainly release a new model of the iPhone before the Summer, you're faced with the prospect of dwindling sales, dwindling commission and dwindling take home pay.

What would you say to encourage people to sign up today?

Though, at least not every sales rep works like this. One in Comet told me to hold off buying a MacBook Pro a few weeks back because there as likely to be new ones out soon. But she did say, make sure you see me when you come back!
 
Jobs has already said there is going to be "A+" iPhone updates this year. And a new software update isn't enough, well it is for me, I couldn't give a rats ass about hardware, but for the uninformed masses.
 
I wouldn't trust him, plus, he'll probably be fired once everybody he sold a 3Gs starts complaining when the next generation is released.

Yeah I meant horse's mouth to be sarcastic and I'm not sure which employee this is, just my G/F called me right after she re-activated our old treo and that's what he told her...even though she should know better.

My iPhone white screened 2 hours after I bought it and the employees told me I was screwed and to go ahead and re-order a new phone. After my brainfart I remember the hard rest power+home button, I proceeded to tell the employee about it in case anyone else came in but he brushed me off since I didn't have a broken phone and I wasn't ordering a new one.
 
Just like we heard from a Verizon employee the verizon iphone was coming to Verizon. I'm just waiting til June to hear the announcement, and switch from Verizon to AT&T.
 
My basis is that qualcomm is coming out with a chip this summer that combines all cell phone networks om 1 chip. (CDMA,gsm,lte,wimax).. That way apple can produce 1 phone and they work on 1 network

What few people realise is that the 'pizza place' next door is in fact a front for Apple's top secret test lab for the new iPhone. Which is where the guy gets his information. It all makes perfect sense.

Do you think a salesperson, who works on commission is going to say "oh, yeah there will be a new one. Please don't buy it."

Oh I agree with you guys that I rarely if ever take any advice from my local salesmen, just there are p-lenty of customers out there that are not very techy and the salesman is their friend - he works at the company so he MUST be informed and correct if he is telling it.
