I thought for sure Apple would update the specs on the mac mini but it didn't happen. I've been waiting to order one. How much longer do you guys think till they update the mini? Im getting impatient. Perhaps by fall? :(

I bought the old design Mac Mini 3 weeks before the newer design came out.
I packed it up and took it back to the Apple store and they switched me out for the new model, the newer models were $100 more so I paid that and walked out the door, g2g.

Yeah, it's a bummer. And the worst thing is now we have no guidance at all in terms of Apple's product map moving forward. We can't even say well what about Macworld or WWDC coming up. We can speculate that it won't be coming in October because that's iPhone's spotlight time... yet the rumor mill says the iMac refresh was delayed into October so what are ya gonna believe.

I would have bought a 2012 Mac Mini immediately, had it been released.

yeah me too. I've been waiting for about 4 months. My HP laptop is acting up sometimes. I need a new computer soon. I was going to get the current mac mini 3 months ago, the one with the dedicated graphics, but my friend said to wait cause Apple would be updating the mini soon. Mountain Lion is out now but no new mac mini like last year. Oh well. Hopefully Apple will update the Mac Mini soon. Ill keep my fingers crossed. I suspect that when we see iMac updated, Mac Mini should be updated also. Please Lord! I've been a good boy this year! :(

I believe this article suggests a fall refresh of products https://www.macrumors.com/2012/07/24/apple-on-fall-transition-apple-tv-impact-of-rumors-and-more/

As Mr Oppenheimer says, apple is aware that speculation (of new products) is hurting current sales, and he mentions a "Fall transition" which could mean a new or refresh product line in Fall, however he doesnt say for which products

So see you in Fall :apple:;):D

Thanks for the info.

well I guess I could wait longer. Meanwhile, I'll keep saving up. Hopefully I can get the new mac mini, plus an iPad Mini ;) if it were true about the iPad Mini rumors.

Yep, I think today was the last chance for a Q2 update, looking more like October in Q3. Too bad, I need one to operate with a TB Display a friend gave me a good deal on.

While on the 1 hand I am somewhat disappointed that their is no update, if I really needed one the current model still is a winner.

And besides how much of an update will it really be in a real-world sense anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Possibly Quad-Core
A better graphic card with 512 MB VRAM
USB 3.0

These are three pretty massive upgrades imo.

well if it's not out today that probably means we'll have to way another half year.

probably until 2013 ;)

Why is USB 3 worth it when they do (should) come with TB? (I guess price difference compared to speed/through put? :))
USB 3 devices cost less (much less), are backwards compatible to all USB versions, the number of available Thunderbolt devices is small compared to the number of USB 3.0 devices, and so on. Or in other words:
USB 3.0 makes TB useless in many cases.

Yeah, I thought about that right after I posted. I haven't seen many (except on Apple's site) TB gear around.

Thanks.

At this point, I wouldn't expect a new Mini (or iMac) until after Apple's back-to-school promotion ends on September 21. Apple has traditionally used that promotion to clear old inventory, anyway. Given that Apple's return policy is 14 days, I'm guessing that, at the earliest, we'll see new Minis and iMacs on October 7, but more likely October 21... or thereabouts. Sigh.

The Mini doesn't even take part in the back to school promotion, which means it's the iMacs fault ...

I just hope the Mac mini isn't passed up for an upgrade like the Mac Pro has been. It looks like Apples focus is on its laptops, which by all means are THE BEST! But the Mac mini is in my price range. I'm a student, I can't afford to buy one of the laptops. I have to make my money stretch, especially in these economic times. The mini is perfect for me. So hopefully they'll update the mini in September or October with iMac.

They will certainly upgrade both iMac and Macmini this year.

BTW, Mac Pro has been confirmed for upadtes early 2013. I dont know wich techonlogy Apple is waiting for, but if they are doing it, something good is coming.

im sure its going to be awesome. Apple never disappoints. Too bad I have too many bills to get a Mac Pro. I would really like a 27inch iMac but even the cheapest model is way out of my price range. :( The mac mini is good for me. I already have a nice 27inch monitor. I just need the mini. If its not updated by October, im going to get the current mini. Its mostly for internet, email, Netflix and research, typing up papers.

Apple focuses more on Laptops because more people buy Laptops.

I personally don't think we'll see a new Mini this year, but I hope I'm wrong. I also hope it has something besides that measly HD4000 for a GPU.

Though I'm a big fan of Apple, I'd have to respectfully disagree.

If you're saying that when Apple launches or updates a product, that they spend a considerable amount of time and effort making sure that it fits into an overall positive and consistent experience, then I'd agree that they rarely disappoint on that level.

Unfortunately, on a hardware level many folks have been disappointed over the small amount of power increase in the updates, or the delay in updates (if at all), especially considering the price point. For example, the lack of attention on Mac Pros and 2GB of Ram on a 2011 mini.

It kind of fits with where they're headed - focuses strongly on consumer products, and less on the bleeding edge power for gaming, pro work, etc. I sure as hell couldn't run things better than the leadership team at Apple, but that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed.
