I've posted this before, I'll say it again.

There won't be a new Mini this year.

Apple still has not introduced the new Mac Pro yet, and any revamp of the Mini will come _after_ the Mac Pro has hit the market and is selling.

Apple will not let the Mini steal from Mac Pro sales or impact them if possible. The best way to assure this is to hold back the Mini introduction to let the Mac Pro shine on its own.

I would expect to see a new Mini (that is, if there's going to _be_ a new Mini) up for sale in January or February 2014.

Maybe December, but again, ONLY after the Mac Pro is on the shelves...

Don't insist....
there are two different markets!

Mac Pro is not a consumer product....is more professional!

On the other hand, ipad mini hunts ipad air customers....why APPLE decided to introduce both of them in the same day? ...

new Mac Mini is coming....simply, don't panic! :p

what the hell should i do noooow

I
am not panicking.... it's not my problem but my shelf on the other hand it's very panicky...
It is hungry.... :D

Where them ninja's be...? :D

good point...

All that means that the entry level mini will not get pro graphics. Thats it. Since the mini's processors are based off the macbook pro line the high end mini and server will get iris pro graphics. They will also be based on quad core i7 haswell chips just like they were based on i7 ivy bridge.

i think that makes sense. I wander if they would bump up the price though. Given that Iris pro is only available on 15" MBP

I dont see why it would be. They were not before and the mini's processor was based also on the 15MBP. If you want to see what the mini will have just look at the current lineup of the MBP line. Same as before last year.

If there's a price bump, I suspect it'll be marginal. Apple doesn't like to have its product lines (at least in the desktop arena) cross *too* much over each other, and if you price bump significantly it starts wandering into iMac territory.

I would have liked to have seen a mini update or maybe Apple TV. Even though I just purchased a mini this year.

Ugh, I hate how the AppleTV gets more attention than the Mac Mini. Seriously Apple, why couldn't you just silently update it whenever you update the Macbook Pros?

I hope so....
BUT,
technically speaking, mini case will remain the same (as said MAX TDP 45W)...all available mobile quad-core i7 Haswell processors with Iris Pro 5200 run at (min) 47W. Do you think APPLE will "fill the gap" and accept that? or replace mobile quad-core i7 processors with dual core i7 to support Iris 5100 or HD5000? (combination runs below 45W).

This is the crucial issue....

ahaha, just about everything gets more attention than the poor mini :(

Its a bit of a black swan - part of the appeal i guess :D

yeah i think that makes sense i suppose also given that everything today got a price cut...

I am no expert but doesnt the max tdp depend on cooling potential/performance? if so couldn't apple just make better airflow happen by more opening at the bottom of the case, as some users here have done? Thereby getting the max tdp up to 47w?

I wish so... but that means mini case to be redesigned (I don't think APPLE will redesign the case this year).

not really minimum design change only on bottom plastic cover… no..?

If APPLE decides to update Mac Mini in the next couple of weeks, production line will have to start immediately with the existing supplies of mini case...no time for minor redesign, sorry!

true but they would have had plenty of time to make this small design change in the production line already...

So the idea is it would have PCI-flash and maybe higher memory limit? If so, that's all I really need—a headless iMac, really. I've been thinking about an iMac or Mac Pro, but the new Mac Pro is probably overkill and I already have a great NEC PA271 and don't need another monitor.

Considering the rMBP still tops out at 16 (2x8) GB I strongly doubt the new Mini would support 32 GB (at least not from the factory). If the memory is upgradable it's possible 16GB modules could be made available at a later date by 3rd parties but when first available they would be extremely expensive (maybe even over $1500 for a pair)

There was something that i read about there not being any modules larger than 8gig for. so that would mean that more ram would require more slots… which does not sound likely to happen on a ninja release…. :D

gap...

it's pretty lame. Not everybody wants to buy a new screen upon buying a computer. I'm WAITING for a new mac mini for a month now. I'd even prefer a atb with mini above imac. Or is that screen supposed to last only 3 years?

After the recent price increase for the Mini it was obvious that an imminent update was highly unlikely. If they were going to update the Mini at the event they would have held off on the price rise till releasing the updated models.

I have been waiting for several months. I have no desire for an iMac or Macbook Pro and the Mac Pro is too expensive and overkill for my needs. For the first time in a decade I am seriously considering a Windows machine.

Wow. Cheer up people. Todays announcement is actually good news. Not bad. Yes we will have to wait a month or less or more. Not much more. The mini is a very important desktop for Apple. It is their entry level machine for the desktop. One that gets people in the door and to buy a mac who never even considered one.

With that being said. Looking at the sales figures and CPU procurement by Apple for their mobile haswell chips from intel. The figures look lower from last year because mac sales fell across the board. But there isn't any other mobile haswell chips in the pipeline from a sales standpoint that my office can determine besides the ones that were announced today. That tells us two things:

One: the mini will most likely use the setup from last year like I explained earlier. These are the most likely as there is a higher procurement of these processors than the other ones for the macbook pro line. Meaning they are going to be used or they would not have ordered them.

Two: They are either redesigning the mini or making up for the slight difference in wattage by altering the fan or cooling for the mini. That is why there is or was likely a slight delay. I don't see any other mobile processors in the pipeline other than the ones that the macbook pro haswell chips. Apple saves on each chip since they buy in bulk. The more they buy the more they save. They would actually lose money by going with another processor since they would not recieve the benefit of saving more by buying more.

Here are the likely processors based on sales from Intel to Apple. These three have the highest procurement rate, meaning that Apple ordered the most of these chips than any other mobile processors that they ordered. All cannot be going to the macbook pros.

Don't because it will be worth the wait. ;)

That's good to know. I think I'll just stick with my 3,1 Mac Pro for a few more months to see if a new Mini comes along. I have a great monitor and don't need a new one, and the Mac Pro is overkill.

The single TB port bugs me, but I can always get one of the new TB expansion docks that are starting to show up that have an additional TB port. If the new mini has PCI-flash (seems likely, given current trends) and improved processing power it should be good enough for me.
