For some reason i'm not getting any notifications, and there's no recent items showing or anything. I'll send myself an email, get no notification, nothing in notification center. I have no idea what's going on. Notifications appear to be enabled. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I'm getting notifications fine. Try to go into the notification panel in System Preferences and make sure your Mail app has "Show in Notification Center" checked and also have an alert style checked.

I take it all the apps have to be running in the background to receive a notification.

So have to have messages, email, reminders etc etc all running?

i just got a message from my wife...iPhone dinged and the notifications popped up on my Mac. All without the Messages app being open on the Mac. So that worked at least.

Tried emailing myself something, so far it didn't pop up on notifications

it no worky if

a. the mail app is not running
b. the mail app is on the desktop
c. you send yourself a email ( spent a lot of time with dp4 to sort this out )
apples being to clever by half

so app minimised and external emails should work

but cs6 screws it up royally

So far Mail and Adium have been working fine.
Spotify doesn't work yet, don't know what else to try.

Yes, mail has to be open, and hidden, for notifications to work. Just not in the background, but hidden.

Messages can be totally closed and it will still show up in the notifications. I wish they'd be more consistent with this. I'd like to just close mail down totally and have pop-ups that I can dismiss.

I'm running GM, notifications always worked. Now ML released, I didn't do anything with my OSX, and mail notifications stopped working. Not getting mail notifications, just on the mail dock icon. So something happened with the notiication system, or the servers or I don't know. :(
Twitter notification working, I tested it now.

Edit: ok I tested it many times, and some emails get notified, some are not :S

I've had a headache all day trying to get mail to work. Not just notifications, but just Mail period. I'm just not even gonna try and get my hotmail working... It seems to crash Mail. 200% of my processor was being eaten earlier. I have 2 mail accounts besides my Hotmail. My iCloud and my college email. I can't verify if notifications are working for my college account, but they seem to be coming in for my iCloud. Can anyone verify if, as someone said earlier in this thread, it doesn't notify you for emails sent to yourself?

I've been having all of the same problems too regarding notifications in mail. Even Twitter doesn't seem to want to display notifications. I just don't get it. Initially after installation of ML, I had a few notifications from mail, but ever since I started playing around with it, nothing shows up any longer.

What gives?!

Try to reconfigure your twitter account in system preferences. (delete it then re-add) That fixed twitter notifications for me. I could fix the mail notifications by reboot. Now everything works.

You will only receive notification when the email was sent from a different account (not those account from your Mail app). Try to ask your friend to send u and email (let Mail app open in background without selecting it).

The issue for me is about the notification sound. I can see the banner popped up but no sound at all.

The sound still seems to be controlled from the Mail preferences independent of Notifications. At least for me.

Email App has to run, but can be closed via top left red X.
Reminders and Calendar don't have to be running for notifications to show up. (For me at least)

I've tried to set the sound in Mail preference as well but no luck. How about you ? Can u get banner and sound together at the same time for incoming mail ?

I've tried a clean installation of ML but no luck. Beside, the com.apple.mail.plist file is also missing from ~Library/Preferences. Really don't know what's going on here.

I found something incredible. Go Preference/Viewing in Mail and change the view to classic. Quit the app, reopen. The sound came back, unbelievable !!! It works.

Wow.. that is odd. Does it keep working if you go back to the previous view?

Glad you got it working at least.
