From time to time, I will go to play something, either YouTube, Sirius, or even a phone call via Webex. And, no matter what device is connected (headset via Bluetooth, cable via 3MM or even MBP speakers), no sound output.

At first, I thought the issue was my Bluetooth connected devices. But, today, I learned that even with nothing connected to the MBP 2019, 32GB, no sound via the MBP speakers. I had to switch to various other choices in the sound output choice list. Eventually, it started to work, but, this isn't the firs time that this has happened. - macOS Monterey, version 12.6.

Ideas/thoughts on how to resolve this, permanently?

I'm unsure if I understood your issue, so correct me if I'm wrong:

You connect an external device and get no sound on the device nor on your Mac?

OR

You connect an external device and get sound on the device but not on your Mac?

Thanks for the response. The former, "You connect an external device and get no sound on the device nor on your Mac"...

When connecting a device, do you select it on the system settings? Sometimes devices will connect but for some odd reason MacOS doesn't send the signal automatically. It happened on a Sonos pill speaker of mine once or twice.

I typically (new to macOS) click the headphone icon on the top bar (where the time is), and select the output of choice.
What is weird, is that, sometimes, even from that same menu I choose the MBP's speakers, still no sound. That part is weird. That is why initially, I thought the issue was my Bluetooth devices...
