I have a 2016 MacBook Pro running 12.6.2. I don’t use my mac much anymore so I’m a bit rusty with macOS

I’m trying to free up iCloud space by offloading to my computer. When I try to drag and drop on my hard drive it will not let me. When I get info on my hard drive it says my sharing and permissions are “read only”. The names and privileges are: “system”(read and write); “wheel” (read only); and “everyone” (read only). When I click the plus sign and try to select administrator or my name it says I don’t have the necessary permission. I’m the only user on this computer. Any help would be much appreciated!

It sounds like you are trying to move files outside of your user directory. File locations outside of /Users/<username> belong to the operating system.

You could create a new folder INSIDE OF your home folder.

Give it any name you like -- something like "temporary storage" would do.

See if you can then "drag-n-drop" from iCloud into this folder. Then move them around later on.

No promises (I don't use iCloud at all).
