No pinch-to-zoom in Mac Mail.

I think I'm having another senior moment. I thought that you could pinch-to-zoom in Mac Mail when I was in Snow Leopard.

With Lion, I am not able to pinch-to-zoom.

Were you able to do that before Lion?:confused:

Help an old man out - let me know if I have to start my meds again:eek:

Yes, it used to work everywhere in Mail except for when composing messages. I was hoping it would be added of composition too, instead it's disappeared entirely from Lion. Was one of those features that was so effortlessly useful that it had become second nature and now it's gone :( I really hope they add it back in an update.

Suggest providing feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/mail.html (although note that OS 10.7 hasn't been added to the drop down OS menu yet!)

The trackpad zoom feature also doesn't work so well in Safari anymore, fonts temporarily blur as the size shifts and the zoom does not stay fixed when you change pages. So if you're reading a multipage story, it'll go back to the original size every time you change page so you have to re-zoom. Daft and annoying. I got a new MBA and it's great, but at the moment I'm wishing it had Snow Leopard on it instead of Lion.

I guess I can avoid those Alzheimers meds for a little while longer.

I will go to the site that you included and post a comment and hope it does some good.

Also noticed the problems with pinch-to-zoom. As you zoom it goes off-center and takes time to re-focus. It used to work perfectly in 10.6.

I have not seen any problems with "pinch-to zoom" works perfect for me.
Maybe hardware?
 
Although it's nowhere near as convenient, command+ and command- work the same way as the trackpad zoom used to, both in Mail and Safari (and Firefox for that matter). The new trackpad zoom is presumably based on iOS for iPhone and iPad, although why someone would think this is a useful idea on laptops with large screens is completely beyond me. All it needs is an option to make trackpad zoom work in the same way as command+ and command- and the problem would be solved, I hope that happens in an update.
 
I hope the pinch to zoom feature is introduced to Mail in Lion. This is especially significant for the MBA 11 inch screen, where easy magnification is a major benefit when reviewing mail. I use it all the time when reviewing messages on my 13" Macbook. Removing this feature from Lion is a significant step backwards.

Yeah, Cmd + and - still works for zooming on Mail. But pinch to zoom gesture has been .. what you call it .. super shortcut for zooming in OSX :D .. especially if you have Magic TrackPad. It's even faster than pressing zooming shortcut on keyboard, not to mention it's fun and in Lion .. zoom works smoothly (as in iPad) on Safari. I just hope Apple do the same with Apple Mail on Lion. Did they forget to add that fun feature?

Cmd + and - just don't cut it anymore, albeit has the same function .. yet less sexy and fun :D
 
Pinch to zoom not working

It is not just a feature issue, it is a bug. I am running Safari 5.1 on updated Snow Leopard on a 2008 iMac using a Magic Trackpad. When on a Safari page I move fingers to zoom and it will. Once. It won't go back and it won't go foreward. CMD - and + work, as do the buttons I have on the menu but pinch and zoom on the track pad is buggy. Just started with the 5.1 update.
 
Good to know I'm not alone on this - I just upgraded to Lion and have really missed the pinch-to-zoom feature on both mail and safari. I hope Apple adds them back soon as they are much more in the direction of how we interface with our devices - iPhones, iPads, etc. than using command + or -
 
Apple, PLEASE Quit going BACKWARDS and fix this bug!

What next - are they going to remove the pinch zoom from Safari? This is the second decade of the 21st Century for crying out loud!
