no preview and no printing

Am using an eMac OSX 10.4.11 - using Word - suddenly will not preview page and window says "Cannot print due to a problem with the current printer." Same happens on 3 different printers (all Epson). Fine one minute, then the problem. Hardly seems the printer is the problem, but I'm at a loss.
