No Preview Pane in Mac Mail

I like the classic layout of the Mac Mail (version 9.2), but the preview pane does not appear when I click onto any single email. I have El Captain 10.11.2.

Thanks for any tips on how to configure Mac Mail so the preview pane is active.

At the bottom of the window, there should be a small bar, where you can drag the preview pane up.

I got it!!! Found the answer - in Classic, drag the dimple/dot VERY HIGH, almost to the top. That should do it. So simple. Thanks to All who have contributed to finding this answer.
