I have searched an could not find anything about this so I must be missing something. I remember way back (I think it was in March) when they introduced iPhone 3.0, they talked about ESPN SportsCenter and push notifications. I have yet to see anything more about it. It has been months since they introduced 3.0 and ESPN Sports so I figured they would have something figured out by now. Am I missing something? Does anyone know when/if they will activate push notifications for this?

There is the ESPN Scorecenter app. The next version will have push notifications. This version is in beta right now, and is being tested. Not sure when it will be out though.

Didn't they announce this back when Apple first announced OS 3.0?

Yes, but my question is where is the source that says it is coming soon? I have yet to read anything that says the app is coming soon. We've known for a long time they have been working on it.

Sportacular is great and they're always making it better.

I think ScoreCenter will only have push for Sox, Patriots and Yankee fans. ;)

just go to espn's website and sign up for text alerts. its free and you can pick by team conference sport or league. its just as good if not better then push notification!

How? With Sportacular, you can open the notification directly to the game to see the stats and who scored, etc. Also, the badges can tell me how many of my favorite teams have finished and have score notifications. Text notifications is not the same as a full functioning sports scores app with push.

I understand except not everyone gets unlimited text messages. I have to pay per text message to save money because I don't get many. What about iPod Touches?

yeah i have unlimited text so it doesnt bother me.. i get the score update and if i am really interested in it i will open up the scorecenter app or just use saffari, sometimes that faster then scorecenter and look up the stats. just throwing out ideas to help if i can!

What's wrong with Sportsacular? I get all my push updates from them and it works very well. I may try the espn app out once it's out, but I'm not sitting around waiting for it. They had an app together at the 3.0 revealing show in march, so obviously this app isn't much of a priority to them.

Exactly ! I love Sportacular, best sports app out there, bar none. Even before push notification, I was using it way more than ESPN's app. Just like it much better. Better layout, better stats, just all around better.

I have Sportacular Pro and love it. However, I will definitely try out the ESPN app. For one, the UI in Sportacular is terrible. And the ESPN app provides game recap articles. Sportacular has yet to include this. However, if the ESPN app is as slow as it is now, I will definitely go back to Sportacular.

I just got Sportacular Pro after getting Sportacular after a recommendation here.
Funny, I like Sportacular's UI & function better than ESPN's. The ESPN feels awfully sluggish and it often doesn't pop to where I want it to be (not showing the current day or week). Overall, I think the ESPN app just looks sleak but doesn't provide as much function. Can you even set the ESPN app to Top-25 for college fb & bball?

Push

Okay now that the cats out of the bag yes i am beta testing scorecenter with push. It works very well the push notifications are better then sportactular. By better i mean as far as when they come. The only thing i would like to see is when u click to view push notification that it would link to a video showing the scoring play.
