That's just awesome. If there are a few scratches on the back or on the screen those will be gone after you got a new one.

Very strange. My only explanation is that the battery is extremely difficult or even impossible to replace. Maybe it is soldered onto some other part. I'm sure we'll know for sure once its released and someone takes it apart.

Seems expensive though that they give you a new ipad for $100. It probably will be refurbished ones though, since by the time your ipad battery wears out, 2-3 years I'm guessing, your model of ipad won't be in production anymore and Apple could only replace it with a refurbished one.

oh my :) no need for apple care in my opinion
ill pay the 100 dollar service fee :)

While I'm no AppleCare advocate, why would you pay $100 for the "battery replacement" once, when AppleCare is only $99 and would cover this in case it happens multiple times, or if other problems come up. Seems like paying more for something less?

id sell mine refurbished for 125. which is great! (if its after 2 years)
new = 200 dollars. make some manneyyy

This isn't too surprising.

This is how they deal with battery issues or iPods, iPod Touches, and iPhones. Why would this be any different?

If there are scratches on the back or on the screen, you will NOT be eligible for a battery replacement. That's just TERRIBLE!

I don't think that's quite right. I think they mean that if your iPad is broken, it won't be replaced. Not if it has a few scratches, which would be expected with normal wear and tear.

So can I just get one of those Replacement Ipad's I'll gladly send off my $105.99.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

I'm sure this will change after the 1 year warrenty runs out.

Check back on this policy in a year...

Than you can better buy Apple Care for $99. But I won't pay anything: over here in NL there are special laws and special rights. If it's broken after just one year (when it's not my fault) I must get a new one for free.

Am I missing where it says they will give you a new iPad when they replace the battery? This might be the case initially, but I have a feeling that they will eventually start replacing them with refurbished ones.

It says:

"If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee."

Note the lack of use of the word NEW. You'll get a refurb to replace your used one.

That's what I thought. It seems like everyone is assuming they are going to give you a brand new iPad.

For all sense and purposes, the refirbs are pretty much new. In some cases they may even be better than new.

I have to agree. I've purchased refurbed iPod Touch, a Macbook, two Macbook Pros and an iMac and never could see anything that didn't scream 'brand new'. Maybe iPhones are different but my experience is that you can trust Apple's refurbs.
