No Signal to Monitor

Hi

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro and for the last couple of months my monitor hasn't always been picking up a signal when I boot up my Mac Pro. Usually I'd just power off and restart and it would eventually work. However, it's not working at all now.

Is it safe to assume that this a graphics card issue and it needs replacing or are there any other likely causes? I'd just like to eliminate any other causes before I go and buy a new card and it turns out that wasn't the issue.

It's not the monitor, I've checked it on another machine and it works fine.

What is the graphics card?

Is it an 8800GT? If so, google "8800GT bake" and you may be able to squeeze a little more out of it.

No it's an ATI Radeon 2600. Same rules apply, though?

Not uncommon for the ATI 2600 to crap out. Apple had an extended warranty program for them, but it ended in January of 2011 if I recall correctly.

Mine did the same thing so I just sprung for 5770 and called it a day. There are cheaper routes, but I don't have another machine to flash a windows card and I wanted a boot screen.

You might be able to bake it, just depends on your needs. If the machine is a money maker I couldn't deal with it maybe working or going out in the middle of a project. It's really up to you.

I must have caught a break then. 10 mins in the oven and it's up and running again... for now.

It's still getting replaced asap but at least I now know for sure that the card was the issue.
