About a month ago, a friend of mine has an unlocked iPhone 8 and after updating to iOS 11.4.1 cellular service no longer works. It simply states No SIM.
Tried everything to get it working: airplane mode, reset, hard reset, reset network settings, factory reset. Still won't work. Took the SIM card out of the iPhone 8 and it worked in and it worked in X, 7+, and 5s but other SIM cards from multiple carriers won't work in his phone. Talked to Apple support and they determined the device was faulty so they swapped it out. Ok, great, at least he has a working phone.
Well tonight the same friend with his replacement iPhone 8 is having the exact same problem again! He is on the phone with Apple care and is less than happy to say the least. He has tried all of the same troubleshooting steps as before with no luck.
Is there a known issue with the iPhone 8 and 11.4.1 randomly going to a state of No SIM? I thought about upgrading him to iOS 12 public beta to see if that would resolve it but thought it might make things more complicated with Apple support.
