No Siri when using AirPods with Apple Watch

Hi everyone,

I have set up my AirPods on the iPhone to activate Siri when double-tapping them. Anyhow, as soon as I play music on my Apple Watch through the AirPods (either directly synced music on the watch or remote on the iPhone) double-tap always performs start/stop. There seems no way to activate Siri on the watch using a double tap. If I listen to music using the iPhone, double-tapping correctly activates Siri.

Am I missing something or is this by design?
