No Sound in XP on MAC PRO

So here's the weird issue. I had my Mac Pro for over a year now and my Bootcamp XP partition usually works fine except now I'm getting no sound from my Bose Companion 3 speakers. The sound comes from the builtin Mac Pro speakers and it is terrible. Everything works fine on the Mac side so I figure it is the XP side where there is something wrong. I havent done anything to my Mac Pro except for adding a second hard drive yesterday but that has nothing to do with sound problems. No clue any help?

I have the same problem with XP and Windows 7. To me it seem like windows does not allow me to switch from front to rear speaker jacks. I Windows 7 it knows when I plug something into the front but not the rear.

I'm sorry but this is the most retarded issue I have ever had. It doesn't make sense to me that my speakers worked for a whole year on Windows but now suddenly nothing comes out.

Ok guys I solved the problem. After an hour of fiddling with the audio jack I got pissed and plugged it into the front audio jack. XP picked up the sound right away and it sounds better than it used to. Go figure!

Hey, I had the same problem. You can obviously tell because when you move the plug around between the in and out ports, with the in port, XP will give you the message that an audio jack has been plugged in, but with the line out port, nothing.

My solution consisted of pressing down on the plug a bit until XP recognized that a jack had been plugged in. I then gently pulled on the audio cable and let my heavy Mac Pro rest on top of it.

Problem solved! Audio works in both OSX and XP and I don't have to plug a jack in the front of my CPU. Hope that helps everyone.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it did not work for me. I also used a different cable and still no luck. Oddly plugging the speakers into the front jack and the line in windows sees the connection right away. This looks like a driver problem or the fact that apples set up the 2 jacks separately. I think a headphone jack should be wired inline with the rear speakers jack, so when you plug in headphones the speakers go mute.
