No Sound when recording

My 21.5 imac I think, is great and performs very well (so far). I even use XP on it without problems, that is until I want to use the Sound recording. Sounds generally are very good but when using Sound recording on XP portion it says not enough memory for the task, close some programs when none actually are being used. Strange. :confused:

Any help out there would be much appreciated
