I just received my ipad pro 12.9 M1. External display is awesome but I have no sound.

Things I did :

Display 1 : Dell 4K with integrated usb hub. I have usb speakers connected to it. Works great with PC and macbook. On ipad, the sound works for 2-3 seconds after connected then nothing. The speakers are detected by the ipad as output.

Display 2 : same monitor but no speakers attached to it. Sound output is « dock connector » and of course, no sound.

Both monitor don’t have integrated speakers.

If only I was able to use the ipad internal speakers when connected but NO!

Any idea? :(

Thanks

Edit :

OK did more tests. On the display with a USB dac, if I disconnect and reconnect it after connecting my USB-C hub, the sound is back! So it looks like a bug…

For the monitor without usb speakers, the ipad send the sound to it because there is a line out on the monitor…. Stupid but right now this is how it works..

This is ridiculous

Also, when connected to an external display and you lock your iPad, the monitor doesn’t go in sleep mode, it stays ON with a black screen. This is also ridiculous

Apple did this because the sound quality coming out of a small device like an ipad would not match the big screen you’re looking at. In other words, the visual stimuli would never match audio sensations, which would go against Apple’s DNA.

Yours,
A really really really big fan of Apple who’d rationalize anything
