Well, there is no sound on my desktop such as iChat, trash bin, and photobooth, but like on the internet, sound comes out of the games i play. i have made the sound go all the way up, but the weird part is I can hear the sound that it makes when you turn the sound up or down... Anyone know anything? I ran the diagnostics test to see if something was wrong, but everything was ok.....

More info is good.. which Mac? Which version of OS X? Do you have speakers or are you using internal speakers? Got a sound card? What are the settings in the Sound prefpane?

check that thread...

I have no solution. It happens to me too sometimes. Supposedly opening and closing Garageband may fix it, but it never did for me.

It has something to do with the Audio/Midi settings I think.

The only solution I've ever found is a simple reboot.

Do you use audio software at all? like Soundtrack pro, or Logic? Just wondering cuz me and a few other folks have been trying to figure out why this happens.

*and ya what Yellow said. more info is good* but I suspect you're not running an older machine are you....?

It is an iMac Intel 20', everything stock, Mac OS X 10.4.6, I am using internal speakers, whatever sound card came standard, everything in the Sound Preference pane has never been touched or ever been to.

Garageband didn't work, and i don't use and sound suites, I am a simple home user.

Just rebooted. Obviously that fixes everything. I wish I knew what caused it though. Thanks for the help1:D
