A friend of mine sent this to me this morning. Sounds like he's getting the run around from the Apple Store:

So, last week I went to the Apple store to buy me a new computer. I wanted the 17" MacBook Pro (the smaller 15" is $100 more!) They said they had the 15" models but the 17" weren't being released until the next week.

Today, being the next week, I call the Apple store an they said the 17" were in. I drive to the store and say pack one up. They said they were in the store but weren't actually for sale yet. He said they'd start selling them in about a week and went on to ask if I was going to buy Apple Care with it. I said probably not and he said it may be more like three weeks before I could get one!!! Uh?

Is it a plot to not allow me to buy it? WTF? It's been months and they still won't sell me a comuter!

They also said they'd transfer the stuff from my old machine to the new one for free. Today this schmuck said it would cost $150. I'm about one snide comment away from giving my money to Bill Gates and ripping the tattoos off this dudes arms.

And, on top of it all, Pro Tools is still not kosher with the Intel Macs. What to do?

I'd talk to the manager at that store as well. That's completely unacceptable. Which Apple Store was it?

And there's nothing really wrong with Apple care - I've bought it before and the price for a couple extra years of protection is worth it - especially for a laptop. Almost any repair you'll need after the standard warrantee expires will cost you more than the price on the Apple Care. The one thing you can do is buy it at any time, so in a year you can get it if the money is an issue right now.

apple made a huge profit from applecare

apple can fix your machien for much much less compared with the applecare thing, espcially while apple computers have few variety of components and there's no such as thing as rare spare part
