In these days when I start up my MacBook I don't get the startup sound (chime), macOS is updated to Big Sur 11.5.2.
In the Sound Effects pane, the “Play sound on startup” setting is on, Mute is off.
Anybody else?

I tried all and nothing worked so I did a clean install of macOS Big Sur 11.5.2 and startup sound worked...
Thanks Apple.

Yes, all was ok and no sound on startup. After a clean install now startup sound works as expected.
I noticed this issue after the system was updated to BS 11.5.2... I also noticed that the boot sequence changed, I mean

before 11.5.2 it was:
Chime sound -> Apple logo -> Login password because FileVault on -> progress bar -> Desktop

After 11.5.2 installation:
No chime sound -> Apple logo -> progress bar -> Login password -> Desktop
I checked FileVault and it was correctly on

After BS 11.5.2 clean install:
Chime sound -> Apple logo -> Login password because FileVault on -> progress bar -> Desktop

I don't know if anybody else noticed this...

I have the same issue and could not find a solution (Mac mini 2018). Good to know that a clean install fixes it but hope it gets fixed with the next update as well...
