There is only one logical explanation - they are fixing some bugs...
I'm waiting for 1.8 80GB and one short shipment showed up in Macconnections
and Amazon, nothing since...

I would have thought another explanation would be that it is selling very well ;)

My local stores in Houston haven't had any of the non-SSD Airs in over a week. The Apple website shows no Airs of any kind available in Texas except at the Houston Galleria. I'm guessing that's an SSD version. I'll call them this morning. I have a 1.6 on order from Macmall that is "back ordered." They say it will be 1-3 weeks. I have little faith in an estimate with a spread that wide.

No Macbook air in the UK either very frustrating so many people would buy if they could be purchased easily. I have a lot of friends who dont really care that much about Apple and this is the first Laptop from Apple they have gone wow I want that.

Apple just updated their website for the Houston Galleria and there are no Airs available. I wonder what the problem is? Even the Apple website says 5-7 days.

why do you think there is a problem or issue? It is just selling very well. I would guess that apple wasn't too confident in the air (with the slowdown in us consumer spending) and didn't order a huge first batch. Demand seems stronger then they anticipated.

Why not just order form the Apple Store online? You'll probably have it in your hands in less than a week.

That does seem to be the dilemma for most. Get it from Apple or a retail store and get the product now but for more money. Or, buy it online and wait but you save money :) I went to the latter.

No, it's not true. It would be if you had any shipments showing up
and sell out. But there is NOTHING in any store other than Apple store,
where I refuse to buy for tax reason. Plus it's at least hectic in Apple
stores anyway... Nothing in Santa Monica for example, a huge store.
There was only one very small shipment of
1.8 80GB at Macconnection, nothin at amazon...

http://www.pcprices.net/macbookair.shtml - nowhere...

I think Apple is selling a ton of these. A ton.

I may be wrong, but I suspect the Air is going to be yet another example of pundits and the internet getting it all wrong on an Apple product.

The Air is hardly niche.

It really came as a shock.
I suppose it could be a kind of marketing trick to atrract some addictional attention... Or they might be fixing some bugs.
I just can't believe everyone and everywhere is buying the MacBoook Air...

After all, all the criticisms.. and the new MacBook Pros arrival... It must have appeared deal-breaker for a lot of possible MacBook Air customers...

I think you have to step back and take things at face value. It is pretty clear that there aren't a lot of MBAs in the stores. That leaves you with one conclusion: they are outselling the supply. The question is, did Apple underestimate the demand for MBAs and is having trouble producing enough, or did they have to halt production to fix some problem with the MBAs.

Personally, I'm not hearing the type of problems that would require them to halt production. Sure there are the normal little glitches, but by and large the MBA was pretty good out of the box. My opinion is that demand for the MBA is outstripping supply.
