I updated from 12.0 to 12.1.4, and my battery started draining faster on my iPhone X. I skipped 13 and 13.1, but my battery issue started becoming pretty annoying. So finally I caved and updated to 13.1.2. Battery issue got better, but now I'm having a couple of annoying issues. One of them is not getting notifications for text messages received.

Randomly, I sometimes won't get any notifications when I receive text messages. I would get a banner on my lock screen, but the ringer and vibrate doesn't go off (I have it set to ring and vibrate for text messages). And sometimes, I don't even get a notification banner on lock screen, or a badge on the Messages app icon. But the new text message would be there. Again this is random, from any one in my contacts. Pretty annoying, especially when you are waiting on an important text. I've missed a few since last week.

I've already reset and reinstalled 13.1.2, but to no avail. Has anyone run into the same issue? Any fix?

Thanks.

This looks to be a bug. My wife has been complaining for a long time (since iOS 12 came out) that notifications don't always work for her and I've noticed it too since iOS 13 came out. The only way we've been able to get notifications is to disable iMessage and revert to SMS.

There's another bug and that's repeat alerts doesn't work.

There's a long thread on the Apple Community forums about this so it's definitely a problem. Depressingly, someone posted on there that the bug remains in iOS 13.2 beta.

Apple have seriously dropped the ball here. It massively dents ones confidence when they can't get the basics right.

I've never had this issue till I updated to 13. And oddly enough, this was also the first time I updated via wifi. I normally plug into my Mac and update through iTunes. I've read a number of threads, where people say updating via wifi causes a lot of issues. So I decided to restore from iTunes. And it seems that the issue is gone. I've been receiving notifications again. Still keeping an eye on it though.

That's really interesting. I may try that on my phone (as I'm waiting for an iPhone 11 anyway so if I cause havoc on this device I can probably live with it) and then if it works do the same on my wife's iPhone 7.

I hadn't heard that about WiFi updates and it makes absolutely no sense at all for it to be like that, however I'll try anything and if it works then happy days!! Thanks for the tip! If anything changes then please update this thread!

It doesn't hurt to try. Good luck! Let us know how it went for you.

Oh...for sure. I think that goes without saying. I've made it a standard practice to always backup before updating. I even backup my backup. Which has actually served me well a couple of times in the past.

Hey GSL... I’m trying to figure out how to PM you with an unrelated question on here. Drop me a line if possible. Cheers!
