"Why don't you answer my texts?"

Whenever anyone but my wife sends me a text message I get the default text tone (Noir) and the hepatic. When my wife sends me a text message there is no tone or hepatic. I do, however, receive the message. I just don't know about it until she calls me to ask why I haven't responded.

Here's how her Contacts page is configured for text tones:

Here's how my phone is configured:

What have I done wrong here?

Open Message app and make sure you don’t see a bell icon that looks like the one in the attached image, located to the right of her message. If you see one, then you have somehow silenced notifications from your wife. To fix this, just swipe left on the thread and click the purple bell. That should allow you to hear /feel the notification.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong here, but when I open Messages I see nothing like the image you posted. If I swipe left on a thread all I see are the times of each message. No bell or anything like that.

I should add that when I was away from home my wife could hear the text tone on my iPad which I'd left behind.

Also, when I got home and was in the same room as both the iPhone and iPad, there was no text tone on either device.

I finally figured this out. The problem is that I had my wife pinned. If someone is pinned then you can't readily see the mute icon. So, the solution for me was to unpin the person. Unmute the chat and then pin the person again. Note that you can press and hold on the pinned person's icon. But the choice from the dropdown menu there is hide/show alerts, not mute/unmute. I guess they're the same thing. But, if they are, why not call them the same thing?

I was just replying to your post and noticed a response. Glad you got this one figured out. I also use the pinned feature. The bell icon is a pretty obvious give away and yes, they're the same. Why they did that...I have no idea. After 8yrs at Apple, I walked away scratching my head!
