Did not want to post here BUT even Apple support did not help me... d
So let me begin. My apple Iphone 8 plus IOS 16.xx has my "songs" on it.. none were bought from Itunes
Now that Itunes is dead and AppleTV is alive, I can not transfer/download my songs from my Mac M1
to my Iphone using the AppleTV..
Not even the helpful people at the Manhattan Beach Ca store could help nor could the person on the
Telephone help...
so do my movies and songs need to be purchased from Apple before I can download them to my Iphone 8?
if the answer is no, then why can I not. download them...
I have researched, and the answer is not to be found.. like I said even Apple does not know
Another question is Do I need to be online. (internet connection) to use the Apple TV fully?
ball in your court
BTW I do not have ISP at home... I use the Elks lodge or Moose lodge
Best

iTunes is not yet "dead".
It lives on if you wish to use a "workaround".

Download the free utility named "Retroactive":

On the right, click the "Latest" button for Retroactive 2.0.
Then (on the new page) click the blue download button.

Retroactive will install and modify iTunes to work with the m-series Macs.
Give it a try -- it's free and should hurt nothing.

I'm not sure if it works with Sonoma. Works with Monterey and Ventura.

Once you install iTunes, are you able to again access the iPhone?
(I don't own an iPhone, really have little idea as to how they work)

When you connect your iPhone to your Mac, it should appear in a Finder window. You can then choose to transfer music from the Mac to the iPhone(but not the other way around).

No, you can download personal and other videos. Whether they will play is another matter as Apple Codec support is limited.

Not sure what happens with an older phone but that is the theory.

Depends on whether the app you are using requires internet. Netflix certainly does, but media players accessing files on the local network may not.
