Hi everyone,
In doing a clean sweep of my hard drive on my ibook it seems I have erased all of the packages in library/recipts. I now cannot reinstall my os from disc, as it says the software can't be installed on this computer. I've run a hardware test from the dvd and everything checks out ok. Is there anything I can do or do I need to take it in?
Thanks so much for your help.

MThanks for the tip, unfortunately I already wiped the whole disc and I believe that is why I can't reinstall. The only things I can use are some of the utilities - startup disk, disk utility, terminal, system profiler and network utility.

Where did you get the disc from? The message you're getting leads me to believe that it might be a disc that shipped with a different machine and can thus only be used on that model.

You are right - I seem to have lost my disc and and am using a friends. I have a ibook G4 and she had the same thing but a year or so newer? I'm not even sure exactly which disc I should try and find.
