No Verizon for Me

I am glad to have the iPhone and I have great service with AT&T so I have no complaints, however I am the one who handles the phones and bills in our house and Verizon pisses me off.

My wife has the HTC Droid Eris which in itself is a nice phone for the price, but she has to stay on Verizon because AT&T doesn't work in her building in fact no phones do except a small portion of Verizon and Sprint users. The one thing that agitates me to no end is how Verizon puts their startup Logo on the phone which seems to slow the phone down, does anyone know a way I can remove the Verizon boot logo from the phone, I can not stand this feature from Verizon.
 
I doubt you can remove the splash screen from your wife's device. Verizon is infamous for branding their devices with their "red" software.
 
The iPhone is one of the handful of devices that doesn't have a Carrier Splash Screen during bootup. So, it's not really a "Verizon thing."
 
Is the Palm Pre Plus Verizonized, too?

I love, love, LOVE my iPhone 3G, but I really am getting sick of AT&T's service in my area. I drop at least 10 calls per week, often when I'm sitting at my desk (meaning, not moving around at all) and it's just about to push me over the edge.

I would love to see the iPhone on Verizon come June/July, but I'm not going to hold my breath. As such, I'm starting to open up to the possibility of a Palm or Android phone (as much as I don't want to).
 
Many/most smartphones have a custom carrier-specific startup. It's not just Verizon.

I know that WinMo phones have a startup animation file that you can replace.

I would expect that Android phones have something similar. Perhaps try a Droid forum? Heck, just Googling for "droid startup animation" gave me tons of hits and information.

However, I'm not sure it'll speed things up to modify it. It's very likely that each frame is simply shown as eye candy as the boot proceeds. More entertaining than just looking at a static logo.

Umm you do know that minus the iPhone all AT&T phone have some splash screen on boot up right. Take for example my blackberry. Right after the blackberry load up screen with a bar below it it puts up the AT&T World phone screen for a little bit.

Now if you want an annoying slash screen go with the AT&T damn one they have on their 3G devises. Annoying as hell and on my old LG if I turn on the phone it was load as hell. Hell AT&T had an annoying as hell turn off screen as well and it was fairly loud when it cycled.

Sum it up the splash screen does not effect the boot up time and the iPhone is the exception to logo crap.

I guess that's the price you have to pay to have cell service that AT&T can't deliver? Besides, as others have stated, I see plenty of AT&T boot screens, too. I think the iPhone is unique because it's Apple, with nothing to do with AT&T.
 
Many cell phone carriers brand their phones on the start up splash screens. Verizon goes another step beyond this and makes their devices software look alike, they give it that red touch. From the cheapest dumb phone to higher end smart phones you get the feeling that your basically on the same device which cheapens them IMO. The exception being the Droid and their blackberry devices. I really don't like Verizon.

That's because they wanted to be as hands off as possible with the Droid something that Verizon normally wouldn't do being the control freaks that they are. If they were to compete with the iPhone they had to take this new approach, The Droid doesn't even come with VZ navigator.
