no video output over hdmi or display port hdmi after dual monitor setup

i switched my theater around i had a small 23" monitor over display port hdmi and a jvc projector over hdmi from the hdmi output on the mac mini. now i removed the 23" monitor and used it for a surveilance system in my home. long story short i can't get the mini to display anything on the projector. i tried doing the reset where you hold the power and plug it in and the fan goes full speed. i also tried starting mini and then plugging hdmi in after a minute. i tried display port to hdmi adapter as well. how to i get the mini to see the projector? thanks for any help!
