A friend of mine just bought a used early 2009 Mini. The problem is that it will not "find" his wi-fi network. I don't know if it is user error, or if the Mini is defective. Any suggestions?

Make sure his wireless network is not a hidden network. It won't see it unless you manually enter the network's SSID/name. The internal antenna could have come disconnected. It's an easy fix to open the Mini and reconnected it.

@pappy, the first step is to see if it will connect to any wifi network, ie is it a general problem or just specific to his house.

Assuming it cannot find any wifi networks anywhere then proceed with the fix. If the mini has been opened / upgraded by the prior owner it's quite easy for the wifi antenna not to have been reconnected properly. It is of course possible something is defective/broken
