no wifi after update to ios 5.1

Try a hard reset .... press/hold power and home button at same time until the white apple appears on the screen. Release buttons. This might settle things after the update and allow you to reconnect to wifi.
You might have to re-enter the wifi connection (entering password). Worth a try.
