When I had my iPad, I pretty much brought it with me everywhere. When I used the iPad, people always stopped and asked "Wow, that's cool. Is that an iPad?" I now carry MBA around. I don't get that same kind of attention. Not that it matter to me. I was just wondering if Apple didn't do as good job advertising the MBA comparing to iPad. :p

I think it also has to do with the iPad being an almost completely new type of computer. Yes, you can be cynical and call it a giant iPhone; but it was still so different and cool to see for the first time. The MBA, for all its worth, is still just a plain old laptop computer. Not much WOW factor there.

Because MBA is still overpriced product. They cannot say it is affordable like it is on iPad. They can say how skinny and how thin is, but that's where the excitement ends. Flash is nothing new. It's pricey, but it is not new.

I don't know about that. I get tons of attention with my new Macbook Air. Probably as much or even more than when I used an iPad. With the Macbook, people are even more lustful, rather than just mildly intrigued.

At the end of the day, what matters most, is how I like the device, and I am much more satisfied and efficient with the Macbook than the iPad.

Big deal with people's attention. I want girl's attention. I could careless about some old guy asking me if I can read on my iPad and MBA. I wish they would just walk away from me. Let the hot chick get thru to me.

If you bought an Apple product because you wanted people to 'wow' over your gadget, you jumped on the train about 4 years too late.

Well, I had to admit I was late. No, I didn't buy Apple product to Wow people. It's just my observation. I want MBA to be one of the more successful product. I am just saying if Apple did enough to put the words out about MBA. Yes, I got more stuff done efficiently with MBA.

Dude, lift some weights and also find the confidence to go up to women yourself, and you'll get more girls than any apple device could ever bring you

I don't buy a computer for the "wow" factor. I buy it because it does what I want or need it to.

Anyway, if "wow factor" is important to you, consider that the MacBook Air is almost 3 years old, while the iPad is less than 1 year old. Yes, the new MacBook Air is very different on the inside, but the fact is it looks pretty similar to the old one on the outside.

What does price have to do with coolness?

What size? The 11 or 13. The 13 doesn't have cool factor. Its just a thin MBP. But the 11 is amazing and does get some looks.

Size matters.

True Story: I was "wowed" by the original MBA and remain "wowed" by the new ones.

First time I saw an iPad, it reminded me of the digital picture frame I bought my mom for Xmas a year earlier, and I was completely and utterly unwowed.

Seriously? This is a ridiculous statement as I've had a number of people on my travels ask about my, as you'd call it, 'MBP Jr.'

I have both 11" & 13" MBA's, I use them as computers.

Which one draws the most attention?

Oh please... have your ego checked, something is seriously wrong.

While I do agree that MBA is still a bit overpriced you can't compare these 2 products. The iPad is more of a device while an MBA is a full-blown computer. Because of its capabilities the MBA should be priced higher than an iPad. Perhaps not as much as it is right now but still more.

As to the OP's question: and you now wonder why many Apple fans are considered posers by everybody else?

The other thing to note is that if tey don't know what a mac is they all look the same. I mean a mac pro looks like a macbook air to someone who doesn't know what they are (someone who would walk up and say wow). So with that said, people who don't like macs or don't know much about them won't say much.

Then on the other side of the coin the Ipad is not such an intimadating object, as "even your kid knows how to use it". So people who would never buy a mac would be interested in it.

Just my thoughts, but then again, I didn't buy the air for people to talk to me. I bought it because it is an altra portable laptop, and is perfect for my needs. Although I do get where your coming from.

Actually, I find the MBA is about as close to being properly priced as they ever have been. They've had a major price reduction. I would say it's down to maybe 100-200 more expensive. The only reason why is that I believe what we're paying for now is the SSD. That seems to be the major determining factor for a similarly priced machine in which it may have a better video-card (like the alienware MX11), but also has no shred of SSD in it. Once you start throwing SSD at it, though, and woah that MX11 price goes up.

Actually, if you go online to purchase the MBA, it seems the SSD is the main thing driving the costs up. The rest of the hardware upgrades are much less of a markup.

I also tend to think of it as a way that you pay a little for iLife. And if that is the kind of stuff you plan to work with, it's a decent deal since PC equivalents (of that quality) will cost you good money.

The iPad is definitely at a more entry-to-Mac price. True, it's iOS, but it's so simple to use. People who fear computers could use it, and that's even in comparison to a Mac. That's saying a lot.

But regardless of what it is, the iPad is both smaller, and a touchscreen computer. That's 2 wow factors for the price of one. From the outside, the typical (not familiar with mac) person isn't going to know the difference between iOS or OSX without closer examination.

iPad is the newer product. People are still curious about them, like the iPhone when it was new. Now almost everyone has an iPhone so it isn't a big deal.

I still get compliments for my black MacBook because most people don't know Apple used to make them. The MBA can be mistaken as part of the MBP line unless you look more closely.

But to be honest, I'm much more comfortable with electronics with no "wow factor" especially when I travel.

just like i said, airs are for poseurs.

And you figured this out, how? Because the OP asks a ridiculous question? I'm sure nobody really wants a thinner, lighter, smaller laptop. Because, you know, it's not like laptops are supposed to be portable.

And for the original question. You think it might be cause most people haven't seen a tablet before the iPad, and maybe everyone has already seen a laptop? Maybe? ;)
