When I install a copy of Vista on my Macbook Pro, I hear a high pitched whine coming from the magsafe power connector. As soon as I unplug it, the noise goes away. If I start up any sort of program that constantly uses the CPU such as an online radio stream, the noise also stops.

I haven't had any noise issues running XP Pro and am wondering if there is some setting I can change in Vista to stop the noise (it is giving me a headache).

Any thoughts?

Noise

The noise that you are hearing is the laptop asking the charger for more power, and it delivering it. There is nothing wrong at all, however much annoying it might be. It's not nessasarily the CPU that is doing more work but possibly the hard drive.

when I put the question to Apple, this is the answer that they gave me. I hope this helps.

PS, have you got the new smaller style power adapter or the older big one?
