He has knowledge of software and that's one of the main areas where Nokia has to develop. He worked only 2.5 years in Microsoft so it doesn't matter that much.

Finnish media has been saying that he was a safe choice though they are saying that Nokia should have made more radical move. One of the biggest issues is that people don't want to work in Finland as here even big bosses don't get paid as well as they get in US for example. In 2008, Kallasvuo got "only" 1.2 million Euros as salary (total incomes were 8 million according to tax office). Another big issue is that Nokia's board of directors contains mainly Finns and that may not be that attractive for foreigns, especially as the CEO has always been a Finn before.

I'm not making any conclusions yet, everyone deserves a chance.

So a CEO from a perennially outclassed and mismanaged company is being replaced with a CEO from another perennially outclassed and mismanaged company.

Makes perfect sense.

Can't you make one post on these forums that isn't trashing another company? Or is that impossible for you to do?

Nokia really needs an hand. The software part of they mobiles really sucks hard. Maybe with this change things will change a bit.

They need to get rid of Symbian, it's outdated piece of crap. Meego sounds promising and Android is already going strong. As I said above, Elop has experience and knowledge of software and I think that is one of the main reasons why he was chosen.

BTW, Ollila is leaving the board in 2012 and he's also one to be blamed for this as he was one of the main supporters of Kallasvuo. Now that the CEO is foreign, the board of directors will likely be more multinational in the future as well

Where Judas lost it's boots.
Yeah I agree with you. Symbian must go. It was great in the days of ngage, but now it needs to really go away just use android or meego. And they could also improve their hardware quality. My father manages the mobile phones in it's work place so I get to play with lots of different nokia headsets and I can only say that they each new model suck more. Lame plastics, short as hell cables and many other annoyances. But people still say that nokia is the best:confused:.

Do any of you people actually know anything about Symbian? Have you even used Symbian since your old N-Gage?

Symbian will NEVER go it's one of the best mobile phone platforms around! Simple. It's had Multitasking, 3G, Video Calling, MMS, Apps, Java, Flash, PDF, E-Mail .

The heavily pushed Qt Development suite will allow any app developed in it (Qt) to run on either Symbian or MeeGo.

THE ONLY thing Symbian was bad at was Touch UI.

Nokia will never adopt Android so stop even mentioning it, they already have Maemo and are replacing it with MeeGo an much better implementation than Google's (We're going to steal all your information) type approach.

By the way, seen the news that the old Palm WebOS guy is now in charge of the MeeGo 'User Experience' for Nokia? http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/14/nokia-hires-peter-skillman-former-palm-design-vp-as-meego-user/
